Up until recently, all curtain fabric was cotton. Many theaters still have cotton drapes. Replacing them with synthetic materials can be beneficial in many ways:
- Cotton is not inherently flame resistant and must be retreated often. These costs add up over time and may leave your theater vulnerable if you aren’t keeping up with treatments. Synthetic materials have flame resistance built into the fabric and never need to retreated.
- Cotton can shrink, stretch, wrinkle, and fade in sunlight. Pleats can become pulled, uneven, and misshapen. It’s likely that your older drapes are already warped and worn from age.
- Synthetic velour is rich and plush. Doral is durable and affordable. Synthetic fabrics come in a wide variety of colors and weights.
